EMDR and Trauma Therapy
EMDR, or Eye Movement Reprocessing and Desensitization, is a highly researched and highly effective method of treating trauma. It targets trauma at the root by removing the emotional charge of disturbing memories. By removing the charge from the memories, it helps to change traumatic memories into non-traumatic, adaptively stored memories. Often times people report they are surprised they can remember a previously traumatic memory and feel calm as they do so by the end of treatment.
I also specialized in Somatic therapy and Parts therapy. These can be standalone treatments for trauma, or I can use these in conjunction with EMDR.
Trauma can come in many forms, but it most typically comes through physical, verbal, or sexual abuse. Childhood neglect can also be traumatic and have long-lasting effects. It can occur during childhood or adulthood, and it can be uncomplicated or very complex. Trauma can happen to us at the hands of loved ones, strangers, officials, or even institutions like religious groups or dysfunctional companies. I have experience with it all, and can help you recover from it no matter the form it comes in.
